Mathews notches double-double, Eagles clinch regular season title on Senior Night

Seniors were the focus during a pregame ceremony Saturday, but junior Breasia Mathews (JR/Garland, TX) stole the show once the action began, notching another double-double during an 84-65 win over LSU-Alexandria that clinched the Red River Athletic Conference regular season title.

Mathews scored a game-high 16 points, grabbed 12 rebounds and added five assists and three blocks for the Eagles (21-1 overall, 16-0 RRAC), who concluded their home schedule with a perfect 13-0 mark.

Lovietta Walker (JR/Alberta, Canada) and Diamon Sweats each scored 15 points, while Reneya Hopkins (SR/Midwest City, OK) and Vasha Moore (SR/Weatherford, TX) added 11 points apiece as TAMUT moved its win streak to 18 games.

The Eagles shot 54 percent from the floor and 43 percent from long range and scored 31 points off turnovers. TAMUT led by as many as 32 and took a 47-18 advantage into halftime. The team hits the road this week to face Huston-Tillotson on Thursday at 5:30 pm.
