Eagles' struggles on the road continue in opener at Huston-Tillotson

AUSTIN, Texas – Collin Fenili turned in another strong outing Sunday in the series opener at Huston-Tillotson but didn't get the offensive support needed to avoid an upset loss to the ninth-place Rams. The Eagles (17-17 overall, 11-8 RRAC) still haven't found a rhythm away from home, falling to 4-10 on the road after a 3-2 loss to the Rams (10-22, 7-12).

The Eagles managed just four hits – all in the first three innings – and had two defensive miscues that allowed HTU to erase a 2-0 deficit and overtake their opponent. The Eagles scored their two runs on three hits in the third, with Dakota Leopold driving in both runs on a single to right field with two outs. TAMUT still left two baserunners stranded in the inning.

Fenili (4-4) threw seven innings and struck out six while allowing five hits, three runs and walking five. Blake Taylor finished the final inning in relief, fanning two batters in a hitless, scoreless frame.

The Rams tied the game in the fourth inning with a two-run single with two outs, then took the lead for good in the sixth with another two-out hit to score the final run.

The Eagles struck out five times and left five runners on base. Leopold, along with Kyle McMullen, Masashi Takegama and Brandon Riley, each had a hit. Riley also stole a base but the Eagles had no hits for extra bases in the contest.

The series concludes today with a doubleheader starting at noon.
