Eagles split with UHV, setting up key rubber match in regular season finale

A&M-Texarkana split Friday's doubleheader against UH-Victoria, keeping the Eagles a game ahead of the Jaguars in the Red River Athletic Conference with just tomorrow's game remaining before the RRAC postseason tournament. The Eagles (23-22 overall, 17-12 RRAC) fell 4-3 in the opening game but bounced back for a 6-4 win to earn a split. The rubber match is scheduled for Saturday at 1 pm from Dobson Field.

GAME 1

Kyle McMullen hit a two-run home run in the fourth – his fifth of the season – to put the Eagles in front by a 3-2 score, but the visiting Jags tied the contest in the fifth and scored the game-winning run in the sixth while the Eagles left a runner stranded in each of the final two frames.

Eight different Eagles recorded a hit, with Luke Hyzdu knocking his 12th double of the year. Hunter Reid drove in the Eagles' first run of the game in a three-run fourth inning.

Oscar Sanchez (4-6) took the loss but threw a complete game with seven strikeouts and allowed eight hits, four runs and two walks.

GAME 2

Dylan Simmons' second homer of the season kickstarted a five-run sixth inning that put the Eagles ahead, where they would stay for the remainder of the contest. Brandon Riley had four of the Eagles' 13 hits, Hyzdu had two hits and Eric Spencer doubled for one of his three hits.

Gage Mason started and threw the first five innings, striking out four and surrendering just one hit and two runs. Joe Digiacomo (1-2) earned his first win of the season with two scoreless innings and Hunter Reid picked up his third save, recording the final two outs with two Jaguars on base.
