Eagles unable to keep pace with fifth-ranked LSU-Shreveport in series opener

A&M-Texarkana dropped the opener of a three-game conference series with fifth-ranked LSU-Shreveport on Friday, as the Pilots scored the first 11 runs in an 11-5 win over the Eagles at Dobson Field. The series continues Saturday with a doubleheader stating at 1 pm.

LSUS went ahead 1-0 in the second inning and 2-0 in the fourth before opening things up with a 6-run eighth inning before adding three more in the ninth. The Eagles (6-9, 4-2 RRAC) scored all five of their runs in the bottom half of the ninth.

Four of those runs came on one swing as Hunter Reid hit his third home run of the season and plated four runs with a grand slam. Reid finished with two hits. Adam Garren doubled for one of his two hits and Luke Hyzdu also doubled.

Oscar Sanchez fell to 1-3, taking the pitching loss with a seven-inning performance that included eight hits, six earned runs, nine strikeout and one walk. The Eagles were also plagued by four errors.
