Eagles Struggle in First Two Games Against Generals
ALEXANDRIA, La.– The Texas A&M University-Texarkana baseball team traveled to Alexandria to take on the LSU-Alexandria Generals in the first two games of their three-game series. The Eagles were defeated in both games, 9-3 and 7-2.
Game 1: Generals 9, Eagles 3
The LSU-Alexandria Generals secured a decisive 9-3 victory over the Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles in Game 1, led by a strong performance from pitcher Josh Pierce. Pierce pitched a complete game, allowing only five hits and three runs while striking out seven batters. Despite surrendering two home runs—one to Austin Kerns in the third inning and another to Joey Spence in the fourth—Pierce controlled the game and earned his fourth win of the season, bringing his record to 4-4.
Offensively, the Generals capitalized on both timely hitting and defensive miscues by the Eagles. Kliebert, Boudreaux, and Patin each recorded two hits, contributing to the team's offensive output. However, it was wild pitches and defensive errors by the Eagles that played a significant role in the Generals' scoring. These mistakes proved costly, allowing LSU-Alexandria to extend their lead and maintain control throughout the game.
Marcus Tidwell took the loss for the Eagles, dropping his season record to 2-2. Tidwell struggled on the mound, lasting only two innings and surrendering four earned runs. His early exit put the Eagles in a tough position, and they were unable to recover against Pierce's dominant pitching.
Game 2: Generals 7, Eagles 2
The Texas A&M-Texarkana Eagles started strong in Game 2 but ultimately fell short in a 7-2 loss to the LSU-Alexandria Generals. The Eagles' offense came out hot in the first inning, scoring two runs on three hits to take an early lead. However, Generals' starter William Vice settled in after a shaky start, keeping the Eagles off the scoreboard for the rest of his six-inning outing while allowing just six total hits. Charlie Guidry followed in relief, further stifling the Eagles' offense by surrendering only one hit over three scoreless innings.
Despite the early advantage, the Eagles struggled to maintain offensive momentum as the Generals found their rhythm at the plate. LSU-Alexandria broke through in the third and sixth innings, using timely hitting to put runs on the board. The Eagles' pitching staff, led by Gage Mason, battled to keep the game within reach, but Mason ultimately took the loss, dropping his record to 1-2 on the season. Defensive miscues and missed opportunities at the plate prevented the Eagles from mounting a comeback.
