Third Times A Charm
Alexandria, LA – The Texas A&M University - Texarkana men's basketball team made history, yet again, Thursday night with a 69-60 victory over #3 seed University of the Southwest. With the win, the Eagles are the first #6 seed to win in the first round since 2009 and the Eagles improve to (13-18) on the season.
In regular season conference play, USW beat TAMUT twice, both games would go into overtime. In the third matchup, the Eagles would not be denied. The Iron Eagle Connor Ouellette (SO/Texarkana,TX) rwould lead all scores on the night with 21 points on (7-12) shooting from the field and (1-4) from 3-point range. Ouellette would also make (6-7) free throws and pull down 6 rebounds in 36 minutes of play.
The Veteran Desmond Kennedy (SR/Dallas,TX) would pour in 18 points of his own going (7-15) from the field and (2-7) form beyond the arc. Kennedy would also bring down 5 boards in 38 minutes of action. The defense played Kennedy tight forcing him to create and work for his shot attempts.
Shaheed Halk (JR/Little Rock,AR) would have one of his best games of the season chipping in 15 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocked shots. The Arkansan also had 2 steals, one in which he dribbled the length of the court for a one handed slam. Morgan Garner (SO/Memphis, TN) put in 4 points but his biggest contributions came by way of 9 rebounds, his highest total of the season. The mustangs were led by Joshua Harris who would score 14 points and had 11 rebounds.
TAMUT will be back in action tomorrow as the take on (11) LSUA at 5:30 in the semi-finals of the RRAC Tournament.
