Eagles Hand the Mustangs their First Loss of the Season
TEXARKANA, Texas - The Eagles hosted the undefeated Mustangs of University of the Southwest in game two of tonight's double header. Men's Basketball would hand the Mustangs their first loss of the season with a 83-67 final.
In the first half, the two teams would prove to be an even match up, as neither held more than a couple possession lead over the other until the final three minutes of the first half, where free throws proved their importance as the Eagles would make seven to give themselves the lead over the Mustangs 40-34 at the half.
The Mustangs came out with a mission to start the second and would snag the lead from the Eagles within the opening minutes. The Eagles would create themselves some momentum after a quick timeout called seconds after the Mustangs took the lead, and would outscore the Mustangs in the second half 43-33. Men's Basketball would emerge victorious at the final buzzer, and would hand the undefeated Mustangs their first loss of the season.
The Eagles were led in scoring by Johnny Melvin who scored a season high 16 points, Raymond (RJ) Moore who with 12, and Justin Davis with 11 points. Melvin and Moore would also lead the Eagles in rebounding, Moore with 9 and Melvin with 8. Payton Chism would record 4 assists and 2 steals for the Eagles to help them secure the win.
Men's Basketball moves to 4-3 on the season and 3-2 in conference play. The Eagles will be back in action this Saturday after the Thanksgiving break as they host the Tigers of Paul Quinn College. Tipoff is scheduled for 3:00pm following the conclusion of the Women's game prior.
