TEXARKANA, Texas - The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Eagles secured a decisive 77-68 victory over intra-system rival the Jaguars of Texas A&M University-San Antonio in an intense Red River Athletic Conference showdown at the Patterson Student Center Thursday night.
The Eagles dominated the interior, outscoring the Jaguars 34-14 in the paint, while their transition game added 10 fast break points to the tally. TAMUT's bench was also instrumental, contributing 32 points compared to San Antonio's 24.
The game started competitively, with the Eagles leading 36-31 at the half. While both teams struggled to find their rhythm early, TAMUT's advantage in points of turnovers (28-6) hinted at their control over the game.
A&M-Texarkana surged in the second half, shooting an impressive 58.6% from the field. The Jaguars, although improving their shooting to 46.4%, couldn't close the gap. Jason Bush Jr. provided key contributions of the bench with 13 points, while D-Tae Tucker added 11 points.
Deovaunta Williams led the Eagles with 15 points, showcasing efficiency with a 6-13 shooting performance.
The win improves the Eagles record to 11-6, 10-5 in conference play. The Eagles are back in action Saturday, January 18th at the Patterson Student Center versus the Saints of Our Lady of the Lake University, tip off is set for 3:00pm.
