Garcia, Picano Score as Eagles Draw 2-2 at Nelson

WAXAHACHIE, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana men's soccer team opened the season with a strong showing, battling to a 2-2 draw against Nelson on Saturday evening.

The Eagles came out firing, with Mark Garcia scoring the team's first goal of the year in just the 7th minute. After Nelson equalized midway through the first half, TAMUT regained momentum in the second when Diego Picano finished off a feed from John Candelo to put the Eagles ahead 2-1 in the 62nd minute.

Although Nelson was able to even the match just three minutes later, TAMUT's defense held firm the rest of the way. Keeper David Yearwood logged the full 90 minutes in goal, while the Eagles put six shots on target against Nelson's back line.

The Eagles showed balance on both ends of the field, demonstrating their ability to create chances while battling through a physical contest that featured three yellow cards

Men's Soccer is back on the pitch Monday, Sept. 1 at 3 p.m. with a non-conference matchup against Williams Baptist in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
