WALNUT RIDGE, Ark. – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana men's soccer team battled in a tight defensive contest on Monday afternoon but came up just short, falling 1-0 on the road to Williams Baptist.
After a scoreless first half, Williams Baptist capitalized early in the second, breaking through with the match's lone goal in the 47th minute.
The Eagles pushed for an equalizer, generating 12 total shots—including eight in the second half—but couldn't find the back of the net. Sacha Chindiwo and Carlos Kiel Salmanaca each recorded shots on target, while forward Diego Picanopaced the attack with two attempts.
In goal, junior Oliver Gregory kept TAMUT in contention with a strong outing, tallying six saves on the afternoon.
Despite the result, the Eagles matched Williams Baptist with 12 shots apiece and stood firm defensively in a physical matchup that featured several cards on both sides.
TAMUT returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 6, hosting Dallas Christian College in its home opener at 7 p.m. at Judy Kelley Morgan Field.
