TEXARKANA, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2025 season Sunday, blanking Huston-Tillotson 1-0 in front of the home crowd.
After a scoreless first half, the breakthrough came just minutes into the second. Forward Diego Picanodelivered the match-winner in the 48th minute, finishing a pass from Oscar Mejia to give the Eagles the lead.
From there, the TAMUT defense stood firm. Goalkeeper David Yearwood recorded two saves to earn the shutout, while the Eagles held off a late push from Huston-Tillotson, which managed just three shots on goal across the match.
The Eagles finished with nine total shots, five on frame, and held off the Rams in a physical contest that featured 41 combined fouls.
With the victory, TAMUT improves to 1-2-1 and will return to action on Tuesday, Sept. 9, hosting Central Baptist College at 7 p.m. on Judy Kelley Morgan Field.
