Eagles open doubleheader with win before settling for split at Jarvis Christian
HAWKINS, Texas — The A&M-Texarkana softball team split a conference doubleheader Tuesday at Jarvis Christian College, bringing their season record to 5-8, with a 2-2 mark in conference play. The Eagles won the opener, 4-3, before falling in the finale by a 2-0 score.

Game 1 – Eagles 4, Jarvis 3
Baylee Stautzenberger scored two runs and drove in another, and the Eagles got six hits from six different players and four RBIs from four separate hitters before holding off a late rally by the host team. Raylene Zazueta doubled for the Eagles' lone extra base hit and then scored the fourth and deciding run. Grace Cantu and Karmen Searcy also drove in runs.
Stephanie Chico improved to 3-2 inside the pitching circle, throwing five innings with two strikeouts and spreading out eight hits and three earned runs. Alexis Snyder picked up her first collegiate save after tossing a pair of hitless and scoreless innings.

Game 2 – Jarvis 2, Eagles 0
The Eagles managed just four hits – all singles – and the defense committed three errors while Jarvis scored a run in each of the first two innings, which proved to be enough to get a win. Madison Dingman, Macey Cutsinger, Cameron Alardin and Zazueta each had a single in the contest.
Nora Fernandez fell to 1-2 as the starting pitcher after a three-inning start that saw the sophomore allow just one hit and two earned runs, but also included six walks. Snyder threw three innings of relief, allowing just one hit and no runs with a pair of strikeouts.
