Eagles throw consecutive shutouts, sweep series from Southwest

A&M-Texarkana swept a conference softball doubleheader Saturday behind shutdown pitching and timely hitting, getting wins of 3-0 and 2-0 over Southwest (NM) at Bramlett Field. The Eagles improved to 9-9 overall and 2-2 in conference play.

GAME 1

Stephanie Chico fired a two-hit shutout with eight strikeout and no walks to pick up her fourth win of the season (4-2), leading the Eagles to a 3-0 win over Southwest in the opener. Karmen Searcy had two hits and drove in a pair of runs to break a scoreless tie in the fifth inning. Alexis Snyder doubled home a run in the sixth.

After four scoreless innings between the teams, the Eagles broke through in the fifth when Snyder reached on an error, followed by a walk by Baylee Stautzenberger and single by Raylene Zazueta to load the bases. Searcy singled to right to bring home two runs and break the tie.

Chico needed just 81 pitches to put away the Mustangs. She gave up a one-out triple in the seventh but followed with a strikeout and fly out to end the contest.

GAME 2

Alexis Snyder picked up where Chico left off, tossing a one-hit shutout on just 77 pitches in a 2-0 win to finish the sweep of Southwest. Snyder picked up her third win of the season (3-4) and allowed just a fifth-inning single while striking out six and walking just one.

Cameron Alardin singled home a run in the second to get the Eagles on the board, bringing home Macey Cutsinger. Madison Dingman added another run the fourth on a fielder's choice that scored Brooklyn Ruiz.

Cutsinger went 3-for-3 at the plate with Haylee Reginato adding a pair of hits.
