LECOMPTE, La. – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Softball team traveled back down to Lecompte, Louisiana, where they competed last weekend in the LCU Invitational, to play in the Generals Showdown this weekend hosted by LSU-Alexandria. The Eagles faced tough competition at the Showdown and finished with a 1-3 record, moving to 5-3 on the season.
Game 1: Texas Wesleyan (W 7-0)
The Eagles opened the tournament with a commanding 7-0 victory over Texas Wesleyan. Morgan Benge delivered a dominant pitching performance, going six scoreless innings, allowing just seven hits and striking out two. Mia Perez closed out the game with a perfect seventh inning.
Offensively, TAMUT racked up 12 hits, led by Madison Dingman, who went 4-for-4 with a triple. Brooke Usrey was the star at the plate, blasting two home runs and driving in two RBIs. Baylee Stautzenberger and Perez each added RBIs, helping the Eagles cruise to victory over the Rams.
Game 2: William Carey (L 4-3)
TAMUT started strong against William Carey, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Madison Dingman smashed a solo home run, while Brooke Usrey drove in two runs to give the Eagles momentum.
However, William Carey responded with a three-run fifth inning, taking the lead. Pitcher Alexis Snyder threw five solid innings, giving up three runs on nine hits, before Mia Perez took over in relief. The game remained tight until the bottom of the seventh when William Carey walked it off with an RBI single, handing the Eagles their first loss of the season, 4-3.
Game 3: USSSA (L 4-3)
The third game saw TAMUT engaged in a low-scoring, defensive showdown against the United States Sports Academy. The Eagles struggled offensively, managing just five hits, but Briana DeLeon delivered a key RBI, while Brooke Usrey and Mia Perez stole bases to create scoring opportunities.
On the mound, Charli Miller started strong, allowing three runs (one earned) over three innings, before Morgan Benge came in for relief, tossing 3.1 innings with two strikeouts. However, a fourth-inning rally by USSSA proved to be the difference, as TAMUT couldn't complete the comeback, falling 4-3.
Game 4: Oklahoma Panhandle State (L 6-5)
The tournament finale was a thrilling extra-inning battle, but the Eagles came up just short, losing 6-5 in the ninth to Oklahoma Panhandle State.
TAMUT trailed 3-2 heading into the seventh but rallied for three runs to take a 5-3 lead. Brooke Usrey came up clutch with a two-run double, and Raylene Zazueta added an RBI to put the Eagles in position for a win.
However, Oklahoma Panhandle responded, tying the game in the bottom of the inning. The game stretched into extras, and in the ninth, a walk-off single sealed the 6-5 loss for TAMUT. Rylee Glenn pitched five innings, giving up five earned runs, while Alexis Snyder took the loss in relief, allowing an unearned run in the ninth.
