Eagles Sweep the Steers with Offensive Power
TYLER, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Softball team traveled to Tyler on Tuesday for a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader against the Steers of Texas College. The Eagles completed the sweep, winning game one, 18-3, and game two, 8-1. TAMUT dominated the Steers, totaling 33 hits and 26 runs in just 12 innings of play.
Game 1 (W, 18-3)
The Eagles kicked off the doubleheader in dominant fashion, securing an 18-3 victory on 21 hits.
Brooke Usrey put the Eagles on the board early with a sacrifice fly in the top of the first, and the offense exploded in the second inning, scoring seven runs. The Eagles kept the momentum going in the third inning, plating nine runs on six hits.
Several Eagles contributed offensively, with Hannah Guilfoos, Brooke Usrey, Skyler Martin, Presley Humphrey, and Macey Cutsinger each driving in two runs. The Eagles were also aggressive on the bases, swiping five steals, with Madison Dingman leading the way with two.
In the circle, Morgan Benge was dominant, striking out 11 batters over five innings, allowing just three hits and three runs while walking two.
Game 2 (W, 8-1)
The Eagles capped off the sweep with an 8-1 win in Game 2, scoring seven runs in the seventh inning. Presley Humphrey crushed a three-run homer, and Macey Cutsinger added a solo shot.
TAMUT struck first in the opening inning, with Humphrey's single driving in the game's first run. The score remained 1-0 until the bottom of the sixth when the Steers tied it up with a double by Cassadi Barclay.
Charli Miller started in the circle, tossing three scoreless innings with one strikeout and allowing just two hits. Rylee Glenn and Alexis Snyder came in as relief to close out the game.
The Eagles piled up 12 hits, with Briana DeLeon going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate.

The Eagles will hit the road again this weekend to face the Mustangs of the University of the Southwest. The game, originally scheduled for March 15, has been rescheduled to March 16 due to impending weather conditions in Hobbs. First pitch is set for 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. (MST) or 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. (CDT).
