Eagles Earn a Senior Day Sweep

HOOKS, Texas – Texas A&M University-Texarkana Softball hosted Jarvis Christian University this afternoon at Hooks High School Softball Field. The Eagles celebrated Senior Day, recognizing six graduating players: Raylene Zazueta, Grace Cantu, Dempsie Lindsey, Madison Dingman, Baylee Stautzenberger, and Kayla Martinez. TAMUT capped off the day with a dominant sweep of the Bulldogs, winning 8-0 in game one and 9-1 in game two.

Game 1: Eagles 8, Bulldogs 0

The Eagles got off to a fast start in the bottom of the first, plating three runs on a single by Brooke Usrey and a groundout from Presley Humphrey, with Grace Cantu adding to the scoring. Jaquelyn Schmidt extended the lead in the third inning with a run-scoring double.

Rylee Glenn earned the win in the circle, tossing five shutout innings while allowing just three hits, striking out three, and walking none. Charli Miller came in for relief and closed out the game with a scoreless final inning.

Offensively, the Eagles racked up 14 hits. Schmidt and Kasen Morkisch each tallied three hits, while Usrey and Cantu drove in two runs apiece. The Eagles were aggressive on the basepaths, swiping six bases—Morkisch leading with two.

Game 2: Eagles 9, Bulldogs 1

TAMUT once again struck early, taking a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Macey Cutsinger. The Eagles broke the game open with a four-run second inning and added three more in the third to build a commanding 8-0 lead.

Morgan Benge picked up the win, pitching four innings of no-hit ball and allowing just one unearned run.

Cutsinger led the way at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with 3 RBIs. Dingman and Lindsey also contributed two hits each in the second game.

Up Next

The Eagles return to the field tomorrow morning for a Red River Athletic Conference (RRAC) doubleheader against the Gold Nuggets of Xavier University of Louisiana. First pitch is set for 10 a.m. at Hooks High School Softball Field, with game two to follow.
