LCU scores at the horn to hand Eagles loss in conference opener

The A&M-Texarkana women saw victory slip away at the last possible moment Thursday, watching as Louisiana Christian hit a three-point shot at the buzzer for a 68-66 win over the Eagles at the Patterson Center.

In the home opener for the Eagles (2-4, 0-1 RRAC) and conference opener for both teams, LCU's Princis Goff stole the show, scoring 14 of her game-high 34 points in the fourth quarter, including the game-winning shot that beat the final horn.

Goff made 13-of-22 shots for the Wildcats (3-0, 1-0 RRAC) and Deja Tanks added nine points to go with 12 rebounds, including five offensive boards. LCU posted a 38-16 advantage in points in the paint and a slight 35-33 rebounding margin.

Jade Miller led the Eagles with 23 points, a number boosted by four makes from long range. Quren Santiago – who hit a triple with 38 seconds to play that put the Eagles up 66-63 – finished with 13 points, five rebounds and five assists. Delfina Misiuna registered a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double and Kayla Williams tossed in 11 points while grabbing nine rebounds.

The Eagles got 30 points from their bench and finished with a 20-point advantage in bench scoring, but that wasn't enough to prevent LCU from clawing back late in the game after TAMUT had taken its largest lead (11) with 6:50 to play.

The Wildcats led by as many as 10 with less than four minutes in the first half and the game featured four ties and 10 total lead changes. The Eagles led 19-18 after the first frame but trailed 38-31 at the half and 48-47 going into the fourth.

TAMUT will be back at home again Saturday afternoon for a conference game against LSU-Alexandria with tipoff scheduled for 2 pm.
