Eagles' cold shooting leads to quarterfinal exit in RRAC Championships

ALEXANDRA, Louisiana — The A&M-Texarkana women's basketball team went cold during the middle periods of Friday's RRAC Quarterfinal contest, ultimately resulting in a 64-52 loss to fifth-seed University of the Southwest at Rapides Coliseum. The Eagles' season ends with a record of 13-16.

The Eagles shot just 14.3 percent in the second period and 23.5 percent in the third, finishing at 29.5 percent for the contest (18-of-61). Southwest led by just three after the opening period but while the Eagles hit a shooting slump, the Mustangs outscored them 30-20 over the second and third periods, more than enough to put the game out of reach.

RRAC Player of the Year Kayla Williams scored a team-high 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, Jaslyn Woods added 12 points and Quren Santiago had 11 points and six rebounds. Southwest was led by 29 points from Milinda Arguellez and 15 points from Karinna Ortiz.

The Eagles were beaten on the boards by a 50-35 margin and trailed by as many as 19 early in the fourth period.
