
The Eagles Earn a Win after Defeating the Mustangs of University of the Southwest
TEXARKANA, Texas - The Eagles hosted the Mustangs of University of the Southwest this evening for game one of a Men's and Women's double header. Women's Basketball picked up their first win of the season after defeating the Mustangs, 77-65.
The Eagles would outscore the Mustangs in the first quarter, 20-13, giving themselves some momentum for the remainder of the game to earn their first win of the season. Women's Basketball would keep the lead built in the first quarter, and heading into the half, the Eagles would have a 12-point lead over the visiting Mustangs.
The Mustangs came out with some momentum of their own and cut the Eagles' lead down to 5 with one quarter left to be played. With just over five minutes left in the fourth quarter the Eagles began to pull away from their opponent and earn the edge over the Mustangs at the final buzzer. The Mustangs were held by the Eagles to only 14 points in the last quarter, and only 2 points in the last 5 minutes.
Women's Basketball would shoot 47% from the field in tonight's victory and would out rebound their opponents 45 to 21. Leading scorers for the Eagles were Gigi Waddell with 15 points, Kayla Williams with 14, and Delfina Misiuna with 13 points. Williams was just one rebound shy of recording her third double-double of the season with 9 boards, and teammate Chioma Treasure Emeh would add 9 more boards to the mix for the Eagles. Emeh would also lead the Eagles in assists as she would tie her career high of 5 assists.
The Eagles will host the Tigers of Paul Quinn College this Saturday after the Thanksgiving holiday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1:00pm at the Patterson Student Center located in the heart of the TAMUT campus.
