TEXARKANA, Texas - The Eagles hosted the Steers of Texas College for their last home game until after the new year. The Steers would emerge victorious over the Eagles, after a last second three pointer by Cree McClemore put Texas College up by 2 with seconds left in the game, with a final score of 59-57.
The Eagles were the first to get on the board after a layup by Chioma Treasure Emeh assisted by Evelyn Terraza Alcántar, but the Steers would quickly respond and take the early lead. The first quarter was determined by free throws as both teams quickly sent one another into the bonus, however shots were not falling for either the Steers or the Eagles from the stripe, the Eagles would shoot 7 of 12, and the Steers 7-14. At the end of the quarter, the Eagles would have recovered the lead and hold a four-point advantage over the Steers with a score of 17-13. The Eagles would be able to hold onto the lead in the second and haeded into the half would be ahead of the Steers with a score of 31-25.
TAMUT would hold onto the lead built in the first half for the vast majority of the 3rd quarter but the Steers kept applying pressure to the Eagles and with just over 4 minutes left in the 3rd the Steers would even the score at 38. TAMUT quickly reacted to this evening of the score and would pull ahead once again after back to back layups by Delfina Misiuna and Nailah Zetrenne, and at the conclusion of the 3rd quarter the Eagles held a one possession advantage over the Steers.
In the fourth quarter, the Eagles had built themselves their second largest lead of the game with just shy of 2:30 to play and would be up 7 on the Steers. With eleven seconds left, Tyler Pyburn would score and bring the Steers within 1 point of the Eagles. A last second turnover by the Eagles would turn into an opportunity for the Steers, and the visitors would sink a 3-point basket with 3 seconds left to play. The Eagles had one last chance to try and even the score but did not connect on the shot and would fall to the Steers 59-57 at the final buzzer.
Leading scorers for the Eagles were Kayla Williams, who would record her third double double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Chioma Treasure Emeh with 8 points. Williams would lead the Eagles in rebounds and teammates Emeh and Allison Owens would be right behind her with 8 each. Evelyn Terraza Alcántar would contribute 4 assists for the Eagles.
The Eagles are on the road to New Orleans, Louisiana to compete against the nationally voted Wolf Pack of Loyola University New Orleans and the Seahawks of Keiser University. The Eagles will play the Wolf Pack first on Thursday December 5th, tipoff is set for 5:30pm.
