
(RV) LSU-Shreveport Outpaces Eagles in 85-50 Victory
Shreveport, La. – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Women's Basketball team traveled to Shreveport, Louisiana, this weekend to face the nationally receiving votes, Pilots of LSU-Shreveport. The Pilots overpowered the Eagles on their home court, The Dock, securing a decisive 85-50 victory.
LSU-Shreveport dominated in the paint, outscoring the Eagles 40-16, and showcased their speed in transition with 21 fast-break points, while the Eagles were unable to score on the break.
The Eagles kept pace with the Pilots for much of the first quarter, but LSU-Shreveport pulled away with a 13-3 run to close the period. The Pilots continued to extend their lead throughout the remainder of the game.
The second and third quarters were more competitive, with the Pilots narrowly outscoring the Eagles 20-17 in the second quarter, and the Eagles edging out the Pilots 16-14 in the third. However, the game was decided in the fourth quarter, as LSU-Shreveport delivered a lights-out shooting performance. The Pilots shot an impressive 72% from the field and 71% from beyond the arc in the final frame, outscoring the Eagles 31-7. In contrast, the Eagles struggled offensively, shooting just 11% from the field (2-for-18) and missing all 11 of their three-point attempts.
Kayla Williams led the Eagles with 18 points, marking her fourth consecutive double-digit scoring performance. Gigi Waddell and Chioma Treasure Emeh tied for the team lead in rebounds, each grabbing seven boards.
The Eagles will look to bounce back in their next game against the Jaguars of Texas A&M University-San Antonio on Thursday, January 16th. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at the Patterson Student Center.
