Strong Start Propels Eagles Past Paul Quinn College
DALLAS, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Women's Basketball team traveled to Dallas and extended its win streak to three games with a 77-63 victory over Paul Quinn College on Thursday night.
The last time the Eagles faced the Tigers earlier this season, Paul Quinn secured a two-point victory with a last-second layup. This time, the Eagles made it clear they wouldn't let history repeat itself.
Texas A&M-Texarkana dominated the boards, outrebounding the Tigers 40-17. The Eagles also started strong offensively, shooting an impressive 62.5% from the field to build a 10-point lead by the end of the first quarter. Kayla Williams led the charge, scoring 13 of her 22 points in the first quarter on perfect shooting.
Paul Quinn put together a stronger second quarter, but the Eagles maintained a double-digit lead at halftime, 43-32.
The second half was more evenly contested, with the Tigers forcing 14 turnovers, but the lead the Eagles built early proved insurmountable. The victory marked the team's third consecutive conference win.
The Eagles were led by Williams, who scored 22 points, and Chi'onne Dailey, who recorded a career-high 21 points. Delfina Misiuna led the team in rebounds with eight, while Chioma Treasure Emeh and Allison Owens each added seven.
Texas A&M-Texarkana improved to 6-15 overall and 6-11 in conference play. The Eagles will remain on the road this week as they head to New Mexico to face the University of the Southwest Mustangs on Saturday. Tipoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
