Women's soccer set to start title defense Saturday at home
The defending Red River Athletic Conference champions kick off their title defense Saturday when the season officially opens with a home match against Central Baptist College (Ark.) at Morgan Field.
The Eagles posted a 17-2-1 record last season, with a 10-0-1 run through the conference schedule. The club set a new program single season record for wins and was the seventh double-digit win total in just nine seasons.
TAMUT's ladies performed well in a pair of exhibition matches leading into Saturday's opener, downing NCAA DIII program East Texas Baptist by a 2-1 score and following that with a 6-0 drubbing of Paris Junior College on Tuesday at home. Central Baptist (1-0-0) opened its season Tuesday with a 2-1 win over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.).
HISTORY
The Eagles are 3-0-0 all-time against Central Baptist, including a 5-2 win on the road last season. In that contest, Chayce Walker scored a pair of goals and returning starter Alyssa Daily – last year's RRAC Offensive Player of the Year – netted a goal and added an assist. The Eagles posted a 25-8 shot advantage in the contest.
The Eagles are 1-0-0 against Central Baptist at home, winning the only previous home match by a 1-0 score back in 2015. The first meeting was a 3-1 win at Conway in 2014.
