Women’s Tennis Sweeps John Brown and Blue Mountain Christian, Tops Rust 6–1

LITTLE ROCK, Ark.- The Texas A&M University–Texarkana women's tennis team delivered a dominant weekend performance, sweeping John Brown University and Blue Mountain Christian University by 7–0 scores before finishing with a 6–1 victory over Rust College.

Against John Brown, the Eagles controlled the match from the start, sweeping doubles to claim the opening point. Ana Gonzalez and Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira earned a 6–0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Emmanouela Besi and Lucia Siddens followed with a 6–2 victory at No. 2. Adrianne Guangko and Maryam Awais capped the sweep with a 6–0 decision at No. 3.

In singles play, TAMUT did not drop a set. Gonzalez led the way at No. 1 with a 6–1, 6–1 win, while Besi (6–0, 6–0), Siddens (6–0, 6–0), and Dreyer-Ferreira (6–0, 6–2) dominated the middle of the lineup. Andrea Castillo (6–1, 6–1) and Awais (6–0, 6–0) completed the 7–0 shutout.

The Eagles carried that momentum into another 7–0 sweep over Blue Mountain Christian. Gonzalez and Dreyer-Ferreira opened doubles with a 6–1 win at No. 1, Besi and Siddens added a 6–3 victory at No. 2, and Guangko and Awais edged a tight 7–6 decision at No. 3 to secure the doubles point.

Singles action once again showcased TAMUT's depth. Gonzalez (6–4, 6–0), Siddens (6–1, 6–0), Besi (6–4, 6–1), and Dreyer-Ferreira (7–5, 6–0) earned straight-set wins across the top four spots. Castillo (6–2, 6–3) and Guangko (6–0, 6–0) closed out the sweep.

The weekend concluded with a 6–1 team win over Rust. The Eagles claimed the doubles point behind victories from Gonzalez/Dreyer-Ferreira (6–2) and Kristin Major/Siddens (6–0), while No. 3 doubles was decided by default.

In singles, Besi set the tone at No. 1 with a 6–0, 6–2 win. Dreyer-Ferreira (6–1, 6–0), Castillo (6–0, 6–1), and Awais (6–0, 6–0) each posted dominant straight-set victories. TAMUT also earned the point at No. 6 by default, securing the 6–1 final.

With the trio of wins, the Eagles claimed 20 of 21 possible points across the weekend, controlling doubles play and winning 17 singles matches overall.

Women's Tennis returns to action on Saturday, March 7, traveling to Edmond, Oklahoma for a pair of matchups against Bethany (KS) and Southwestern.
