LITTLE ROCK, Arkansas — Texas A&M-Texarkana completed a four-match sweep of the Panther Classic on Saturday, dropping Talladega (Ala.) and Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) at Philander Smith College.
The Eagles (4-4) rallied from a two-set deficit in Saturday's opening match against Talladega to win in five with scores of 30-32, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15 and 15-11. TAMUT carried the momentum from that win to sweep Freed-Hardeman by scores of 25-16, 25-19 and 25-23.
YOUTH PREVAILS
Mia Mata posted her first collegiate double-double in the win over Talladega with 12 kills and 16 digs. In the second match, fellow freshman Alanna Deering (Fort Worth, Tex./North Crowley HS) hammered down 11 kills to lead the way for the Eagles. Mata currently ranks second on the team this season with 45 kills.
REVERSE SWEEP
The Eagles completed a four-match sweep in Little Rock just one week after dropping all four matches in the season-opening tournament at John Brown University, evening their season record to 4-4.
NEXT UP
The ladies are off to Shreveport, La. next weekend to compete in the Country Cajun Classic, hosted by Centenary College on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 1-2. The Eagles are scheduled to face Belhaven University (Miss.) and Millsaps College (Miss.) on Friday at 2 pm and 4 pm, respectively.
On Saturday they will take on Rhodes College (Tenn.) at 11 am and finish the weekend against host Centenary College at 4 pm.
