Eagles Dominate the 2024 Post Season Volleyball Awards
The Red River Athletic Conference announced the 2024 post-season awards last night at the Conference Championships Banquet hosted at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas. Six Eagles earned All-Conference recognitions alongside Head Coach Madeleine Halford.
Freshman Carolina Solis, from San Antonio Texas earned a spot on the RRAC Volleyball Champions of Character Team. The Champions of Character Team is comprised of one player from each school who embodies the Champions of Character 5 Core Values: integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
Junior Kimberlee Joyce, from Granbury, Texas earned the honor of RRAC Second Team All-Conference. This season, Joyce surpassed a career milestone, recording 1000 assists in just three years of playing for the Eagles.
Senior Ja'Kerra Holt, from Cameron, Texas was, for a second year in a row, a RRAC First Team All-Conference selection. This season, Holt also earned an Attacker of the Week recognition from the conference for her performance against Xavier where she recorded 20 kills, 27 points, 6 blocks, 6 digs, and a .417 hitting percentage. Holt also is ranked in the top three in the conference for hitting percentage (.341) and blocks per set (.9).
Junior Paulina Dobreva from Madrid, Spain earned a RRAC First Team All-Conference selection. This season, Dobreva also earned an All-Tournament Team selection while the Eagles competed in the 2024 Faulkner Invitational, a weekend tournament at the start of the season where Dobreva recorded 42 kills, 34 digs, and 45 receptions.
Sophomore Mia Mata, from McAllen, Texas was another RRAC First Team All-Conference selection. This season, Mata earned a Defender of the Week recognition for her performance in their weekend series against the Wildcats of LCU. Mata recorded, 46 receive attempts, only 1 receiving error, averaged 3.6 digs per set, and recorded a total of 25 digs. Mata also is on the leaderboard for the conference with the most digs on the season with 312 digs in just 29 games.
Sophomore Kaitlyn Cabral, from Redding, California, earned 3 All-Conference Recognitions this season. Cabral earned the RRAC Attacker of the Year Award, the RRAC Newcomer of the Year Award, alongside being named as a RRAC First Team All-Conference selection. This season, Cabral earned two Player of the Week recognitions, one for her defensive performance against Xaiver, and the other for her offensive performance against Paul Quinn. Cabral also is on the conference leaderboard for most kills this season, she has recorded 285 kills in just 29 games.
Head Coach Madeleine Halford also earned an All-Conference recognition this season. Halford, the inaugural coach for Texas A&M University-Texarkana Volleyball in just her 3rd season, has led the Eagles to their first ever Regular Season Champion Title with a conference record of 15-1 this season. The Eagles dropped just one game to last year's regular season champion, Our Lady of the Lake University.
The Eagles look to add to their accomplishments in the regular season with some success in the postseason. The Eagles play tonight at 4:30pm at the Mabee Gymnasium in San Antonio, Texas for the Semifinals of the Conference Tournament.
