TAMUT Splits Day One, Closes Weekend with Key Win

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana volleyball team traveled to Springfield, Missouri, this weekend to face strong competition, finishing the weekend with a 2-1 record. The Eagles notched victories over Mission (MO) and Bethany (KS), while narrowly falling to the host team, Evangel University, in a thrilling five-set battle Friday night.

The weekend opened with a dominant 3-0 sweep of Mission (25-17, 25-16, 25-9). Kaitlyn Cabral paced the offense with 12 kills, while Paulina Dobreva added 11. Setter Zoe Martinez recorded 17 of the team's 37 assists and added four aces from the service line. The Eagles were solid defensively, collecting 55 digs and 14 blocks. Flor Lazo led the team with six blocks.

Later that evening, the Eagles took on host Evangel in a dramatic five-set showdown, ultimately falling 3-2 (2-25, 27-25, 25-22, 19-25, 7-15). Cabral and Dobreva combined for 27 kills, while Martinez and Jasmin Williams tallied 46 assists. Libero Lauren Herz anchored the defense with 29 digs, and freshman Macyen Doskocil contributed five blocks at the net.

The Eagles rebounded Saturday morning with a 3-1 win over Bethany (KS), posting set scores of 20-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-22. Doskocil led the offense with 14 kills, followed closely by Dobreva with 13. Martinez and Rhame directed the offense with a combined 44 assists, and Herz added another strong performance with 27 digs.

Following the weekend's action, the Eagles improve to 12-3 on the season.

They return to action next week in their home opener against NCAA Division II opponent Ouachita Baptist University on Monday, September 9, at 6 p.m.
