Texarkana, Texas – The Texas A&M University-Texarkana volleyball team opened Red River Athletic Conference play in dominant fashion on Friday night, sweeping both ends of its home doubleheader against Texas College inside the Patterson Student Center. The Eagles took the first match 3-0 (25-7, 25-12, 25-14) before capping the evening with a 3-0 victory (25-15, 25-8, 25-6) to move to 14-4 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
In the opener, the Eagles hit an impressive .333 as a team, paced by Paulina Dobreva's 14 kills on a .370 clip. Kaitlyn Cabral added 10 kills and nine digs, while Candace Fuchs and Macyen Doskocil combined for nine kills and five total blocks. Setter Ashley Rhame steered the offense with 21 assists, and Lauren Herz anchored the defense with six digs and a service ace.
The Eagles kept the momentum rolling in match two, turning in their most efficient offensive outing of the season with a .365 hitting percentage. Flor Lazo led the attack with 12 kills on a blistering .524, while Cabral, Mia Mata, and Dobreva each chipped in four kills apiece. Jasmin Williams and Zoe Martinez distributed the ball effectively, combining for 29 assists and three aces, while Herz once again held down the back row with nine digs.
TAMUT dominated both matches from start to finish, outscoring the Steers 150-68 and limiting Texas College to a -.080 hitting percentage on the day. The Eagles return to action on October 7 in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, for a pair of non-conference matchups against NCAA Division II foes Lane College and Henderson State.
