Women's Cross Country Ends Regular Season with a First Place Finish
Women's Cross Country took to the road this weekend to compete in the Mid States Classic hosted by Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas. The Eagles performed at a high level this race with two placing within the top five, and all Eagles placing within the top 15. Zalenka Brannan was the highest-ranking runner for the Eagles coming in at 3rd place with a 6k time of 24:19.89. Freshman Kayla Reeves would come across the finish line less than a minute later and earn herself a 5th place finish with a time of 25:04.78. Head Coach Natnael Amare shared his praises for his team in a post-race reflection:
"Today, I couldn't be prouder of the girls. Despite the chilly 51° weather and the wind in their faces, they showed up with grit and determination. They've been working hard all season, pushing through those nagging injuries and personal challenges—family emergencies, life's ups and downs—yet they've continued to stay committed. What stands out most is how they've kept each other balanced, showing incredible support and resilience. With the conference meet coming up, this team is ready to finish what they started, driven and united."
The stellar performance by Women's Cross Country also earned the Eagles a 1st place team ranking, with an average time across all runners being 2 ½ minutes faster than the 2nd place team.
The Eagles finished out regular season meets this past weekend and will compete in the RRAC Championship this coming Friday, November 2nd, in Windcrest, Texas. The Women's 6k is set to start at 8:45am.
