The Eagles Tame the Jaguars of TAMUSA 77-66
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Men's Basketball concluded their trip to San Antonio with a win over inner A&M System rival, the Jaguars of Texas A&M University-San Antonio. The Eagles defeated the first year Jaguars 77-66.
The Eagles would get off to a hot start after a made 3 point shot by Doreante Tucker, within the opening seconds of the game, and would hold onto the lead until almost halfway through the first half. The two teams would swap the lead 8 times throughout the first half, but at the conclusion of the first 20 minutes, the Eagles would snag the lead 37-36 and hold onto it for the rest of the game.
TAMUT would shoot an on fire 60% from the field and outscore the Jaguars 40-30 in the second half. The Eagles would have their largest lead of the game (12 points) with just under five minutes left in the game and would maintain a double-digit lead at the final buzzer.
Leading scorers for the Eagles were Doreante Tucker with 17 points, Deovaunta Williams with 16, and Johnny Melvin with 11. Tucker would also lead the Eagles in rebounds with 9, and Melvin would add 5 board to the mix. Payton Chism would lead the Eagles in assists with 5, and Williams recorded a season high 5 steals.
Men's Basketball picks up their second conference win on the season and move to .500 on the season (3-3, 2-2). The Eagles look to pick up one more win before the Thanksgiving Break as they take on the Mustangs of University of the Southwest on Wednesday November 27th. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30pm immediately following the completion of the Women's game prior.
