MCKENZIE, Tenn. — Two unbeaten teams entered Saturday's non-conference match, but only one emerged with their undefeated record intact. A&M-Texarkana scored a big win for their resume and did so on the road, besting Bethel University, 4-2, at Wildcat Stadium.
The Eagles (4-0) also put a stop to Bethel's domination of the head-to-head series between the two teams, which had the Wildcats (4-1) winning six of the first meetings between the two teams. Bethel was also receiving votes in the latest NAIA national poll, something that voters might have to consider next time when looking at a talented and unbeaten TAMUT club.
TAMUT notched the opening goal in the seventh minute on an unassisted shot by Jazmin Tijerina. Bethel would tie the score just five minutes later, but the Eagles found the net twice more before halftime on unassisted goals by Alyssa Daily (26:43) and Desiree Narvaez (30:57).
Bethel got back within a goal early in the second half, but Johana Rodriguez put away another unassisted goal in the 71st minute to put the game out of reach.
Ivana Robinson faced 10 shots on goal, making eight saves for the win. Bethel outshot the Eagles by a 19-10 margin and had 17 corner kicks.
The Eagles are back home Monday to host Texas Wesleyan for a non-conference match at 7 pm, then opens the Red River Athletic Conference schedule Thursday at Texas A&M-San Antonio/
