NEW ORLEANS, La. — Xavier scored three times in the second half Saturday, erasing A&M-Texarkana's 2-2 halftime lead and handing the Eagles their first loss of the season by a 4-3 count. The Eagles (10-1-0 overall, 5-1-0 RRAC) fell out of first place with the loss and into a second-place tie with Our Lady of the Lake.
A&M-Texarkana had allowed just five goals all season before Saturday's uncharacteristic outing that saw the Gold Nuggets (4-3-0, 4-1-0) put four shots in the net.
Xavier took the lead in the 10th minute, but the Eagles tied it just three minutes later on Brooklyn Lattier's shot from an Alyssa Daily assist. In the 32nd minute, Johannah Rodriguez put the Eagles in front with an unassisted goal.
Xavier scored consecutive goals in the second half to regain the lead, but Alicia Loera found the freshman Desiree Narvaez in the 75th minute and Narvaez tied the score at 3-3. Xavier would get the game-winner with just three minutes to play.
A&M-Texarkana returns home this week where they are 4-0 this season, to face Louisiana Christian on Thursday at 1 pm, then LSU-Alexandria on Saturday at 5 pm. Those two opponents are a combined 9-1 in conference play.
